Promoting Well-being and Access to Health Services
At Friends of Children Circle (FOCC) Uganda, our Health Program is dedicated to improving the well-being of children and families in underserved communities by providing access to essential health services and promoting healthy living. Through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, we address some of the most pressing health challenges faced by vulnerable populations in Uganda.
Health Outreaches
Project Overview
The Health Outreaches project brings vital health services directly to underserved communities in Uganda. By partnering with local health facilities, FOCC Uganda ensures that vulnerable children and families receive the medical care and support they need to lead healthier lives.
The Problem
In many rural areas of Uganda, access to healthcare is limited. Children with disabilities, those affected by HIV/AIDS, and individuals with dental issues often struggle to receive the necessary care due to a lack of resources and infrastructure. These challenges lead to a higher prevalence of untreated conditions, which can have long-term detrimental effects on the affected populations.
The Solution
To address these issues, the Health Outreaches project focuses on:
- Children with Disabilities: Providing specialized medical care, rehabilitation services, and ongoing support.
- HIV/AIDS Support: Offering testing, counseling, and continuous care to manage the condition and improve quality of life.
- Dental Health: Partnering with Oral Health Uganda to conduct dental outreaches, promoting oral hygiene, and providing treatment for dental issues.
- Prevalent Illnesses: Organizing outreach campaigns to address and treat common illnesses in the community, ensuring timely and effective intervention.
Long-Term Sustainability
The sustainability of this project is ensured through ongoing partnerships with local health facilities, continuous training for community health workers, and the establishment of local health committees. By empowering communities with knowledge and resources, we aim to create a self-sustaining model that can continue to provide health services long after the initial outreach.
Project Impact
The Health Outreaches project has significantly improved access to healthcare in rural communities, leading to better health outcomes for children and families. By addressing critical health issues and promoting preventive care, the project helps reduce the burden of disease and improve the overall quality of life in these communities.
Support the Health Outreaches project and help us bring essential health services to those who need them most. Your contribution can make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families in Uganda.

Safe Latrines for Rural Families Project
Project Overview
The Safe Latrines for Rural Families Project is focused on improving sanitation in rural areas by providing families with the resources and knowledge needed to build and maintain safe and sanitary latrines. This project is essential for preventing the spread of diseases and promoting public health in underserved communities.
The Problem
In many rural areas, access to safe and sanitary latrines is severely lacking. Poor sanitation practices contribute to the spread of waterborne diseases, which disproportionately affect children and vulnerable families. The absence of proper latrines also impacts the dignity and quality of life of these communities, leading to a cycle of poor health and poverty.
The Solution
FOCC Uganda’s Safe Latrines for Rural Families Project addresses this issue by:
- Providing families with the materials and guidance needed to construct safe latrines.
- Educating communities on proper sanitation practices and the importance of maintaining clean latrines.
- Partnering with local organizations to ensure that latrines are built to last and are accessible to all members of the community.
Long-Term Sustainability
The project is designed to be sustainable by empowering communities with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain their latrines. By fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility, we ensure that the latrines remain functional and effective in the long term. Continuous community education and involvement are key components of this sustainability model.
Project Impact
The Safe Latrines for Rural Families Project has a profound impact on public health in rural communities. By reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases and improving overall sanitation, the project enhances the quality of life for vulnerable families. It also promotes dignity and well-being, particularly for women and children, who are often the most affected by poor sanitation.
