My Hands My Wealth

Project Overview

The My Hands, My Wealth Skilling Project is an empowering initiative under the Family Empowerment Program, aimed at equipping youths and family heads with practical skills to create a diverse range of products. By providing hands-on training in areas such as liquid soap making, bar soap production, chalk making, crafts, jewelry, jelly, cakes, and reusable sanitary pads, this project seeks to foster self-reliance and create income-generating opportunities for participants.

The Problem

In many communities in Northern Uganda, unemployment and underemployment are rampant, particularly among the youth and heads of families. These groups often lack access to the education and resources needed to develop marketable skills, which severely limits their ability to generate income and support their families. The absence of such skills leaves them vulnerable to poverty, with few opportunities to break the cycle and improve their economic standing.

The Solution

The My Hands, My Wealth Skilling Project addresses these challenges by:

  • Providing Hands-On Training: Participants receive practical, step-by-step training in the production of a variety of marketable goods. This includes essential products like liquid soap, bar soap, and reusable sanitary pads, as well as crafts and jewelry that can be sold for income.
  • Empowering Through Knowledge: Beyond the technical skills, the project also equips participants with basic business management knowledge, enabling them to start and run small businesses successfully.
  • Diverse Skill Set: By offering training in a wide range of products, the project ensures that participants can diversify their income sources, making them more resilient to market fluctuations.

Long-Term Sustainability

The long-term sustainability of the My Hands, My Wealth Skilling Project lies in its focus on practical, marketable skills that can be easily transferred and adapted. Participants not only gain the ability to produce goods but also learn how to market and sell them, creating a steady income stream. The knowledge and skills acquired can be passed on to others, further expanding the impact of the project and contributing to broader community development.

Project Impact

The My Hands, My Wealth Skilling Project has already begun to transform the lives of its participants, providing them with the tools they need to become self-reliant. By enabling youths and family heads to create and sell products, the project is helping to reduce unemployment and poverty in Northern Uganda. Participants are not only improving their own lives but are also contributing to the economic well-being of their communities.
